Shopping for a lock? Check out our Bike Theft 101 and Curbside Lock Review. Customers have told us they're very helpful!
Have you ever started on a journey and actually found the destination? This is the story of Abus for us here at Curbside. When we realized - years ago - that the bicycle thief was more worried about the ease of theft than the bikes value it became clear the lock was the issue, not the bike. For a long time we were the only store selling high-end bike locks in Toronto and the only store whose customers weren't getting their bikes stolen. And, while we were once the biggest retailer of Kryptonite locks in Canada, we were far more frustrated than proud. The Kryptonite locks were (and remain) heavy, poorly engineered, and they rusted so badly that the keys wouldn't turn. So, we decided to take matters into our own hands. We called up Abus in Germany, ordered a pallet of Abus locks (cash up front) and a month later they arrived. The rest is history. Today Abus is distributed across North America and we're proud that it all began here. Abus locks are light, pass more tests than any competitor, feature lock brackets that don't break (another problem with Kryptonite) and best of all they are of good Teutonic disposition: strong, light, rust-proof, and made in Germany.
