When we started importing Dutch bikes over a decade ago the Dutch bike industry was in a scary place. Two decades ago, most bike manufacturers in Holland would have served a local city or province, but today these small regional companies have been swallowed up in mergers and acquisitions. Today, most bike brands in Holland are owned by two major players and the first thing they did was move frame production to China (without reducing the price). Then there's Achielle - a company that once made bikes for many Dutch companies but never stopped making bikes under their name. Achielle is a family business that has been running since 1946. Everything is done by hand; from the frame brazing to the wheels to the paint and final assembly. If you believe in quality and soul, Achielle is proof that you can still flourish by doing things right.
