While Dahon doesn't ride, fold or transport nearly as well as a Brompton - it is more than half of the price, and for some that's argument enough. Like Brompton, Dahon was there from day one, but has always been paradigmatically different as a company. Whereas Brompton is a London-based company focussed on constant transportability for city use (which means a very small folded size for the subway, etc), Dahon is a California based company whose focus is recreational riding, and thus transportability usually means fitting in the trunk of your car (which beats owning an expensive car rack). So, if you're looking for a great riding bike that folds smaller (but not super small), Dahon is a benchmark brand that easily does the trick.
