Every Riese & Muller bike is equipped with either a Bosch Performance Line, Performance Line CX, Cargo Line, or Active Line motor. These mid-drive motors are among the most reliable on the market today and are extremely low-maintenance.
The placement of the motor in the mid-drive of the bike (between the pedals) gives the bike a low centre of gravity and most closely resembles riding a non-assisted bike. All Riese & Muller bikes are Class 1 e-bikes (colloquially known as Pedelecs), meaning the motor responds to pedalling input and is not operated with a throttle as on a scooter or motorbike.
A 32-bit processor mounted in the motor measures your pedal rate, travelling speed, and power input 1,000 times a second to deliver just the right amount of assist in the exact moment you need it. The harder you press on the pedal (ie. the more torque is applied), the more support you will get back from the motor. When you stop pedalling, the motor stops assisting you, and it feels like riding a normal bike.
The motor will help you reach travelling speeds of 32 km/h and will drop out after you exceed this speed, according to Canadian e-bike laws. The bike is capable of travelling at higher speeds in sprints and going downhill, but you will be riding it on your own steam past 32 km/h.
Bosch e-bikes come standard with a "walking assist" that helps you navigate your bike up hills when you are walking alongside. A button on the handlebar alongside the grip gently moves the bike forward at 5.5 km/h - an excellent feature to have when pushing a fully-loaded cargo bike from its parking spot to the street.
All motors marked with an asterisk (*) are also available in Smart System configurations.
This motor is the fourth in its lineage of Performance CX models and is Bosch's most powerful e-bike motor ever produced. It offers up to 340% pedal assistance, a maximum torque output of 85 Nm, extensively sporty take-off and pedalling assistance up to 120 rpm. The minimal resistance, small size and low 6.4 lb weight penalty means you'll barely know it's there - until it's time to move, and move fast.

This is Bosch's most powerful cargo-bike-specific motor. If offers up to 400% pedal assistance, a maximum torque output of 85 Nm, high-power takeoff and pedalling assistance up to 120 rpm. A very low pedalling resistance, compact dimensions and minimal 6.6 lb weight penalty ensure it takes up little room in your cargo bike's frame while delivering maximum output.
This motor is optimized for city use. With up to 250% pedal assist and 50 Nm of torque, it offers smooth and agile acceleration and a balanced riding experience. Zero pedal resistance when travelling over 32km/h makes the ride even sweeter.
Riese & Muller e-bikes are powered by Bosch lithium-ion batteries with either a 500Wh, 625Wh, or 750Wh capacity. By pairing up two batteries using DualBattery technology, Riese & Muller bikes can carry up to 1250Wh capacity. Depending on the bike model you choose, the Bosch batteries are either mounted on the frame, on the rack, or fully integrated into the frame itself for a clean, streamlined look.
Choosing an e-bike with two batteries significantly increases your range and how much climbing you can do on a ride. However, there is a weight penalty to adding a second battery. Other things you should consider include what e-assist setting you use most often, how far you go on the average long trip, and the ambient temperature when you ride (as cold weather drains batteries quicker). In stop-and-go city traffic, you will get less range than a constant-speed trip over longer distances in the country - the same as varying fuel consumption in a car.
There are two ways to charge your e-bike's Bosch battery: directly on the bike, or connected to a wall socket with a charger. The battery can be charged at any point in its rundown cycle because it doesn't have memory, and it has a lifespan of 800-1000 full charging cycles. Thanks to their quick charging times, the batteries can be charged to nearly full over a lunch break, with a full charge cycle taking only 4.5 hours. DualBattery systems can be charged individually with their wall chargers, or simultaneously directly on the bike's frame.
Riese & Muller's Bosch batteries are secured in one of three ways to the bike: on the frame, integrated into the rear rack, or internally within the frame's downtube. Depending on your e-bike model, these can be combined in a number of ways to provide DualBattery support.
Batteries are locked to or within the frame with a unique key and can easily be removed for charging - defining ease of use for riding and recharging while keeping what's yours, yours.

The brains of the operation, Riese & Muller's Bosch displays help you communicate with your bike. Besides switching between four levels of e-assist, these displays can perform many other tasks while on the road. Take control of your information station by using the touchscreen display or thumb controls, depending on the unit.
Intuvia keeps things simple alongside full control. The black-and-white screen is visible even in the brightest sunlight and provides data on battery status, range, daily mileage, riding time, current motor power, time, speed, and average travel speed - everything you need and nothing you don't.

The Purion features a minimalist design with all relevant data displayed on a black-and-white screen that is legible in full sunlight. Control all navigation with your thumb as it sits alongside the grip on your handlebar. Â
The Kiox is the perfect partner for performance-driven riders. Tactile pressure points on the handlebar control unit let you control the centre-cockpit display with ease, and fitness-specific features like average travel speed prompts and various training modes keep you pushing for KOMs on all your rides. It can also be paired with heart-rate monitors and your phone via Bluetooth for map-free navigation on the roads and trails.
A Gorilla Glass exterior is easy to read in sunlight. The magnetic attachment lets you bring the Kiox with you and makes your bike unusable (and thus unsellable) for would-be thieves.
The Kiox 300 is available for the new Bosch smart system and features the same functions as the Bosch Kiox display.
This display is great for fitness-focused riders - it provides fitness data as well as graphic comparison views of your individual statistics including pedaling rate and output. Pair it with a Bluetooth heart rate monitor to get a complete performance overview.
The ambient-responsive backlit display provides enough illumination to read data day or night, and map-free navigation gets you effortlessly from A to B when paired with a smartphone. Control all this and more with the LED remote control on the handlebar.
The Nyon display keeps you connected and well-equipped for commutes or weeklong adventures. The colour display with intuitive touch function is weatherproof and legible in all lighting conditions. Customize the user interface to suit your needs and utilize the full quiver of fitness and navigation tools to meet your goals on any off-road trail.
Like the Kiox, this display can be removed and brought with you when you lock up so thieves can't use or re-sell your bike.
This display is the top pick for tech-focused folks. It uses your smartphone paired with the COBI.Bike app to provide countless functions, including live weather updates, audiobooks, music, fitness data, navigation, and the ability to make or take phone calls on the road. Control the data you see with the handlebar remote control or voice commands while keeping your phone fully charged throughout your journey.
Want to go off the grid? No problem. The SmartphoneHub also features a simple black-and-white display behind the phone mount to keep things simple while still getting essential data from your bike regarding battery levels and range.

Let the Smart System boost your ride in the best ways possible.
The Smart System gets its brains from the new and improved Intuvia 100 or Kiox 300 displays, complete with LED Remote for handlebar controls of the centremount display.
These nifty displays show everything you need as an e-bike rider (speed, travel distance, etc.) but also feature a 5th assist level. This level takes the guesswork out of pedaling and shifts between the assist levels automatically, making your ride more fun and worry-free.
Most Bosch e-bikes come with four e-assist levels, but the Smart System adds an extra level to make your ride even easier. Named Tour+, Auto, eMTB, or Cargo depending on your bike's purpose, this mode lets you focus on the ride while the motor's brain looks after the shifting, auto-shifting between assist levels to maintain your pedaling cadence - even uphill or heading into surprise headwinds.
The perfect compliment to a strong physical lock, the eBike Lock system combines your smartphone and Kiox/Nyon display into a security superduo. Take the display with you when you lock your bike to "brick" it and make it unusable for thieves. Your smartphone's Bluetooth connects with the display when installed on the bike as a digital key to ensure it's you taking it for a ride and protecting your bike.
Meet the next generation of e-bikes. The eBike Flow app connects your bike to your smartphone, and thus your bike to the world. Customize your bike's settings, perform firmware updates, and connect your bike to fitness apps like Strava and komoot.
