Sometimes looking for The Perfect Recreational Bike can feel like seeking out a unicorn. You want something that's lightweight but has enough gears for tall climbs and long flat rides, something that will excel on weekday commutes in the city and weekend rips on the rail trails or long-distance charity rides. If you like the look of the Devinci Hex Sora or Hex Deore but are yearning for more speeds, consider the Devinci Milano Alivio Disc.
The Milano Alivio Disc kicks it up a notch with 27 speeds and a triple chainring in the front for hauling loads or climbing vertical mountains. Matched with a stiff and light but remarkably compliant carbon fork, long wheelbase and ample tire clearance, the Milano Alivio Disc is a silky-smooth, fast and undeniably comfortable ride. A 17-degree stem angle lends an athletic yet comfortable wrist position that will ensure your back doesn't seize up after a day of long hard riding. The hidden cable routing and smooth lines are the icing on the cake that will turn heads wherever you ride.

Devinci Company History: Cycles Devinci is what you might call a true Canadian brand, established in Chicoutimi, Quebec in 1987 by two enthusiastic engineering students. In 1990 Felix Gauthier purchased half the company moving the brand into its contemporary role as an international player in both road and mountain bike manufacturing.
The brand has grown its U.S. and international distribution channels and is now a key supplier of professional road, mountain and hybrid bikes not to mention the outstanding success of the Bixi bikes used in bicycle sharing schemes in cities such as Toronto, Montreal and London, England.
What’s the difference between the Milano Acera Disc and the Milano Alivio Disc?
They're quite similar to one another in that both have hydraulic brakes and identical frame geometry, but the Milano Alivio Disc has a more advanced drivetrain with 27 speeds (versus the Acera's 24) and a carbon fork which lends itself better to longer-distance riding and light touring in addition to urban commuting. That said, if you prefer having an adjustable stem to fine-tune the fit of your bike between upright commuting and moderate sporty positions, this is a feature that's only on the Milano Altus and Milano Acera bikes.
What’s the deal with carbon fiber forks?
Carbon fiber is light, stiff, and unlike aluminum – which is also light and stiff – it’s remarkably compliant, making a longer ride more comfortable. Since most road vibration comes up through the fork – which is the leading edge of the bike – it makes sense to use carbon fiber forks, since it gives your neck and shoulders a break over long rides. Carbon fiber also lightens up the front end, adding to overall performance.
What’s the deal with disc brakes?
Disc brakes are awesome, here’s why: (1) because they stop the bike close to the center of the wheels rotation you get significantly more power, (2) unlike rim brakes, they sit high above puddles so braking performance is consistent in (most) weather, (3) they require less tuning and the pads last longer. They add a bit of weight, but it’s good weight!
Is this bike good for riding in the city?
Being from Quebec, Devinci knows the urban Canadian cyclist very well. Unlike many other hybrids on the market, Devinci makes bikes that are as great for recreational rides as they are for inner-city use. Compared to their competition, a Devinci’s frame and wheels are stronger, many parts are rust-resistant, and the tires feature a puncture resistant Kevlar layer. However, if you’re looking for all-season bike we recommend something with an internal gear hub.
This bike is aluminum, will it dent easily?
Nope! Devinci is Canadian and the city cyclist is well on their radar. Whereas most hybrid bikes are made for Sunday rides and stops at the ice-cream stand, Devinci’s feature a tough frame that can be locked next to steel poles all day while you’re at work (or grabbing an ice-cream!)
The wheels are quick release, how do I prevent theft?
Alas, most bikes sold in North America assume that you will someday put your bike into a car, which means you need to rapidly disassemble it. If your bike is your car, then you’re often left wondering why the wheels are so easy to steal. We recommend bolting the wheels on with a wheel lock system, either from Pitlock (which feature unique keys) or 49N (which use a non-standard tool).
Why do you not carry the women's model?
The women’s model is the exact same thing as the regular (unisex) models but features “more feminine” colours – whatever that means. On principle, we try to keep all of our purchasing as unisex as possible, but if you see something that you like we can always order it.
How do I ensure my new bike won’t get stolen?
Estimates are that over 90% of bicycle theft is tied to cash-for-drugs and this (unfortunately) makes every bike a target. Make sure you buy a good U-lock or a chain and your bike will be safe. You can read more about bike theft here.
What’s the warranty?
Lifetime warranty for manufacturer defects on frame and fork, one year on parts. Does not include wear and tear.
